Who are these people?
Christians, members of Christ's body, through obedience to the gospel, find their roots in Christ's promise to build his church. In Matthew 16:18, Jesus said, "Upon this rock I will build my church," responding to the revelation of one of his disciples, "You are the Christ the Son of the Living God" (Matt 16:16). During those times, people voiced discordant opinions about who Jesus is (Matt 16:13-15). However, Simon Peter knew better, having received the truth from God. Fifty days after his death, Jesus built the church, fulfilling his promise in the first century. Hence, the Christian identity is intricately tied to Jesus's pledge to build his church, establishing a unifying bond among believers that transcends time and challenges. The value of this promise echoes through the ages, providing assurance and purpose to those who identify as part of Christ's body (Ephesians 1:22-23, Matt 16:18). Â
